My sons yesterday during the shichi-go-san (7,5,3) celebrations. While normally held annually on November 15, many people beat the rush, hire the appropriate costumes (kimono for girls, montsuki, hakama, and haori for boys) and head to the local shrine for the obligatory blessings and superstitious mumbo-jumbo. 

We took the opportunity to hire the costume and take some photos for the family album.
